Micronet was a Viewdata service run by British Telecom. It was the entertainment and leisure part of the factual and (possibly) dull* Prestel service. Armed with only a VTX-5000 and a Speccy, you could download something that looked like Pages From Ceefax, but on a Speccy. And you could spend pounds (literally) downloading software, which was guaranteed to be interrupted by line noise. Micronet faded away due to lack of funding, and Prestel was sold and became New Prestel (what was new about it, nobody ever found out).
